The Santa Fe Trail Amateur Radio Club is a general-purpose club with the goal of promoting and supporting the educational and operational aspects of ham radio through ham radio classes, on-the-air events, and hands-on activity. THE SATURDAY BREAKFAST MEETINGS ARE HELD  AT PERKINS IN GARDNER EACH SATURDAY. YOU ARE WELCOME TO JOIN US 6:30 AM TO ~8:30AMThe monthly business meeting is the 2nd Saturday of each month. This meeting is a hybrid meeting in which you can attend in person at Perkins in Gardner or you can attend via a Zoom connection. Additionally, the club holds a Tech Night presentation via Zoom the last Thursday evening of each month at 7:30 pm. Executive Summary:

      During the May 9, 2026 meeting there were no motions. The meeting started with a moment of silence for Peg Nichols, KDØVQO. During the meeting there were  ENSORFEST planning and updates. There are multiple volunteer opportunites including: Field Day Planning, FIFA WORLD CUP volunteers, KCHEART, and volunteers to help out at ENSOR for tours. 

 

MEETING TO ORDER:

       President George, WBØCNK, called the meeting to order at 8:00 AM CST on May 9, 2026. A total of 26 members attended the meeting and 2 guests. There were 23 members in person and 3 attended via zoom.

Moment of Silence for Peg Nichols, KDØVQO

      The meeting started with a moment of silence for Peg Nichols. There is a silent key article about Peg. It can be found on the main page of the club website. If you do not see it, please seach by her name.

 

SECRETARY-TREASURER REPORT: 

      Marty provided a brief update on the club finances. Jason provided a Secretary's report. 

 AGENDA ITEMS:

ENSORFEST 26'- May 9, 2026 [Jeff, ksØjd, Marty - KEØPEZ, Tom- WA2IVD]

      MEMO planned ENSORFEST 26 for May 9th the day of the club meeting. They are planning a fox hunt in the morning at 10 am. Then the ENSORFEST event will run from 12 noon until 5 pm. 

Field Day Planning [George - WBØCNK]

      George is still looking for people to help organize Field Day, June 27th - June 28th.  If you are interested in helping out on the day or helping to organize the event, please reach out to George.  Currently, Trig is organizing the event. Jim is willing to help be a co-chair person. Jim has nominated Larry to help organize field day. There are other positions that are still open including safety officer. We also need help promoting the event. 

Repeater Update [Jim – KØNK]

     Jim provided a repeater update.

FIFA WORLD CUP KANSAS CITY [Jim – KØNK]

     Jim provided an update about FIFA World Cup. It sounds like there is a need to have Amateur radio operators help at one of the 6 parking lots. It sounds like the need would be to help at the first aid tent and provide updates on the fullness of the parking lot and number of people waiting for a bus. 

Tallgrass Prairie Preserve Planning POTA [Jim – KØNK]

     Jim provided an update on the Tall Grass Prairie event. Overall, it was a success. The weather was good. Propagation was average. Andrew made his first CW activation of the park. 

KCHEART (Kansas City Hospital Emergency Amateur Radio Team) [Jim – KØNK]

     Jim is looking for volunteers to help with KCHEART. This is a group that sets up ham radio equipment at local hospitals in the KC region to help with emergency communication. They are looking for people to help set up the equipment and to provide volunteers to help in case of an emergency.

  • Hamvention: Dayton, OH, May 15th-17th
  • Reno County Hamfest: Hutchinson, KS. Aug 8th
  • Huntsville, Al Hamfest: Aug 22nd-23rd
  • Nixa, MO Hamfest: TBD 2026 (was Nov. 18th in 2025)

      George would like us as a club to organize trips to conventions/ Hamfests. If you have interest in attending one of these events, please reach out to George. That way we can car pool to the event as a club. 

Tech Night [George – WBØCNK]

      The next Tech Night is on May 29th at 7:30 PM. The topic is on "Field Day Planning" by Chair person/ Co-Chair person.
